Thinking on what to do for baby quilt…

January 25, 2011

My sister-in-law is having her first baby in May and I want to make her a quilt.  Some reason I am envisioning my niece telling/showing her kids someday about this quilt her auntie made her.  So her colors are hot pink and lime.  Since the colors are so bold I am thinking of doing a quilt with alot of white with splashes of these colors in it.

Few ideas

Table Runner.. or centerpiece placemat…

Finished this for a dear friend as a surprise swap gift!!  Hope it arrives promptly and she loves it.  Inside the regular fabrics I snuck in some cute kiddo fabrics for her kids to try to “SPY”

Flip n’ What?? :)

September 28, 2010

I cant tell you how excited I was to hear and see about this method of scrappy quilting called Flip & Sew.   Kinda like paper piecing but without all the work.   This is a great way to get rid of scraps of ALL sizes without tedious cutting of pieces into a pattern.  Such a great quilting method for those that like to creatively “wing-it”.   My friend, Darla, came by today and showed me her block and told me about this method and I had to try it for myself before I could sleep tonight.

You can google it and find several how to’s online if you wanna try it.  Here is my first 12″ block.

Think I will do 9 blocks and then border them with a cream/ivory solid and then free form quilt them.  So pretty!!

OK- gotta head to bed now, but just couldnt settle my brain until I tried it!  I have a love/hate relationship with my creative juices 🙂

Ginger Blossom Quilt For a Friend

September 10, 2008
I finished a quilt today a good friend of mine had me make with the fabric she purchased. Just wanted to share.

It ended up being square which I wasnt planning on.. but it is huge, lol. And the back I couldnt do with one fabric or patch in 4 squares like we talked so it is a mismash of 3 prints. Seems to be a trend in quilting to piece the back like that..

I also pieced and made the binding for it

Few other things I have been working on and my new fabric cabinet:

Disappearing 9 Patch Quilt with Freshcut Heather Bailey fabrics!

March 7, 2008

I had a bunch of charm squares left from the Freshcut Heather Bailey line I used for my baby girls nursery/bedding.

Then saw this tutorial on the “Disappearing 9 patch” and thought I would give it a try!  (thanks mama ;))

I machine quilted/pieced the whole thing. Used premade quilt binding bias tape for the edges and a natural brushed flannel for the back. I quilted down between the “rows” and then around all the random tiny squares made.. so the machine quilted part on the back is sorta random.. but I like it that way, lol.

Thanks for looking!

Need 6 more quilt blocks for Baby girl, Anyone wanna participate?

February 25, 2008

I wrote a post last week about how I would love to make a quilt for baby girl that had 12 different blocks from various blog readers, friends, sewing mamas of mine!!! The blocks can be pieced however the seamstress saw fit *9 patch, 4 smaller squares, something fancy, etc*, in pink/brown colors mainly *I dont mind if it has some other colors in it*  I needed them to be squared to 12″ squares once pieced and need them in the next few weeks so I can finish the quilt before baby girl arrives!!   You can “donate/make” 1 or 2 or however many you want..  If I get too many I will just add blocks to make another row and make the quilt bigger!! LOL

If you have a biz/personal tag or can hand embroider your name/biz/etc on the square somewhere that would be lovely.

I promise to show the quilt when I am done quilting it all together!!! 😀

 Anyone?

Any Quilters/Seamstresses willing to help me create a meaningful quilt…

February 21, 2008
Anyone willing to help me create a meaningful quilt…

for my daughter.. I have been thinking about this for a while and would love to get some help from my dear Sewing Mamas and blog readers.

I would love to find enough mamas willing to donate a total of 11-12 x 12 inch quilt squares…. *you can donate 1 or 4 or however many you want, lol*
*You can piece them however you want, just so they are finished 12 x 12 inches in size…
*I would love to have them all shades of pink/brown to help them coordinate together…
*if you have a business i would love for you to sew your tag onto the corner of the squares so I have them or if you hand embroider, to stitch your name, but that isnt necessary!

I plan to put them 3 squares across by 4 squares down to make a quilt for her and I will make the 12th square needed.  If I get more I will just make an even bigger quilt!! 😀

I can provide money to ship the squares to me if you need it. The only thing is I have 7 weeks left and would love to have it quilted and together by the time she arrives so I would probably need the squares in 3 weeks or so, so I have time to piece/quilt/etc…..

Anyone ?

Heather Bailey “Freshcut” Baby Crib Quilt!

February 7, 2008
Yay I finished the quilt!!! Can I say that I just about cried when I had to put it in the wash. It was so flat, ironed and pretty, lol.

I ended up just straight stitching in the ditch of the strips. And the binding is self made bias tape with my new 2″ (1″ when folded) bias tape maker, WHICH I LOVE!! LOL

It is 32″ x 48″ finished!  Made from the lovely Heather Bailey’s Freschut Fabric Line!  Just gorgeous!

Here it is on a bench and on her crib in her newly painted sage/mossy green room!!

The back

I am so proud.. and it makes this whole pregnancy so real!!  I just prewashed the rest of the fabric and hope to get the bumper pad and dust ruffle done in the next week!!

Sneak Peek at Baby Girl’s Nursery Quilt

February 4, 2008

So I finally pieced together the quilt top for the baby’s nursery quilt.  The fabrics are all from Heather Bailey’s Freshcut line, So pretty!!   I used 4×4 squares and 4×12 “bricks” and alternated the pattern I made up.   I need to get my batting purchased so I can finish it!

I just love it!! Cant wait to see it all together!!
